About Jessica Brazen

First of all, most people call me Jess. Originally from the US, I’ve been based in Berlin, Germany for the past 10 years. With a background in fine arts (drawing and painting), a BFA in graphic design from the University of Georgia, and over 17 years of industry experience, I love to create.

I provide creative direction for a wide variety of projects, as varied as my haircuts. (Most likely the photo you see here is already out of date in that regard). From big brands, NGOs, to smaller organizations, and one-off individual needs, I’m equally vested in amazingly brazen results. (See what I did there?)

Having spent over 14 years in the agency world, working with top brands and international clients, I’m now freelancing–focusing my efforts on making a positive impact in this world. I don’t mind admitting I’m biased towards opportunities focused on the environment and social equality. Two broad topics close to my heart that need our attention now more than ever.

I believe in giving back and mentoring the next generation of creators, do-ers, and thinkers, with teaching initiatives, and guest lectures to students at Miami Ad Schools in New York, Berlin, and Hamburg, as well as Berghs School of Communication.

In my spare time you’ll find me working on my novel, investing time into various volunteer efforts to help people + the planet, planning my next adventure, or cooking up a storm and hosting dinner parties–perhaps you’ll be my next guest!

I’ve been told this matters to some.

My Working Philosophies

Be Kind.

‘Do unto others’ is just as applicable today as it was when we were children. Whether to colleagues, clients or your audience, I believe in being kind and showing empathy. Both your reputation and your work are reflections of your attitude - so it’s imperative to listen to and treat others with the respect they deserve.

Solve Real Problems.

Don’t invest time and effort into imagined situations. Research and strategic insight must accompany the task at hand. Question the HOW, the WHY, and the WHAT.  Challenge the brief - ensuring something is genuinely broken before you aim to fix it.

Tell Good Stories.

A great idea if not communicated properly dies on the cutting board. Ideas should be simple, coherent and engaging. Getting your audience excited (be it user, consumer, board member, management, or client) is half the battle.

Kill Your Darlings.

Let go of what doesn’t work, or suit the audience - it’s part of the process. Failed attempts will inevitably lead to better results. We only improve when we learn from our mistakes, listen to constructive feedback, and try and try again.

Let’s Work Together

I’m always curious about new opportunities. Remote or on-location, I serve both local and international needs. Please get in touch.
